Through a Start-up Camp powered by Innosuisse and managed by the Swissnex network, Evolium Technologies had the opportunity to attend events in Japan to present its innovative solution for circularity of lithium-based batteries. From this trip emerged the beginnings of a partnership with Luup.

To give them a second life in residential photovoltaic storage, Evolium tests and reconditions lithium-based batteries after their first life, which is often in e-micromobility. This is where Luup comes into play. Being the market leader of shared micromobility in Japan, the company manages thousands of e-scooters and e-bikes in various cities. The performance of these vehicles’ batteries will eventually decrease, becoming not efficient enough for e-mobility. To avoid their premature recycling, a second life in photovoltaic storage is well suited, which is possible thanks to Evolium’s innovative battery remanufacturing process.

From Innosuisse Start-up Coaching to GoGlobal in Japan

By being selected in the Innosuisse – the Swiss Innovation Agency – start-up coaching program, Evolium was invited to attend the GoGlobal Camp co-organised by Innosuisse and Swissnex – the Swiss global network for education, research and innovation – in Japan. This camp included presentations of the start-up at two significant events: SusHi Tech Tokyo and the World Expo 2025 in Osaka. This opportunity allowed Evolium to meet with relevant industry stakeholders, including Luup.

A willingness to partner for an improved battery lifecycle

Being committed to sustainability, Luup is exploring innovative strategies to enhance the lifecycle and environmental impact of its battery systems. Together with Evolium, both companies are looking to establish a partnership with the goal to promote sustainable and circular approaches to battery use in the e-micromobility sector.
