Evolium Technologies announces the launch of its second-life batteries. OIKEN, the largest energy distributor in Valais, is the first partner and supplier of these batteries for residential photovoltaic storage.

This April, individuals with photovoltaic installations will be able to buy Evolium batteries. This start-up from Sion offers an innovative solution for storing photovoltaic energy, using second-life batteries collected from electric bikes and scooters. Thanks to an automated process, used cells are tested and then reassembled into modular, repairable batteries. This system guarantees full capacity for life by exchanging modules that need to be repaired.

A strategic partnership from the start-up’s foundation

OIKEN initially joined Evolium as a sponsor and investor for the launch of the company, and then as part of a pilot project in Crans-Montana, which enabled the two partners to verify the feasibility of the start-up’s idea: reconditioning lithium batteries for use in photovoltaic storage. “OIKEN believed in our solution from the very beginning, when our project was still in its earliest stages. With their support and proximity, we went from founding the company to an initial pilot in 8 months, and only 7 months later we announced our entry into the market. A strong, strategic and technical partnership that has enabled us to move forward quickly and efficiently!” says Alexandre Staub, founder and CEO of Evolium.

Together for a sustainable future

The two organisations are delighted with this collaboration, which will enable them to promote the circular economy by giving lithium batteries a second life. For individuals, this solution is also an alternative to the changing tariffs dictated by the European market. “This collaboration with Evolium fits in perfectly with our strategy and our values in terms of sustainability. Together, we can support our customers in the energy transition with an innovative and eco-responsible solution, while preserving their comfort” , explains Sylvia Marra, Head of Transformation and Innovation at OIKEN. Evolium’s ambition is to gradually extend its sales region to Western Switzerland over the course of the year.
